Learn-to-Play

Plymouth Youth Hockey’s Learn-to-Play (LTP) Registration is now open through August 16, 2019.  Learn-to-Play is intended for all players from the age of 4 years to approximately 8 years old who have previous skating experience.

The 2019/2020 LTP is going to be better than ever!  Plymouth Youth Hockey has revamped the Learn-to-Play program to have two levels, allowing players to grow within the program.  Level 1 of Learn-to-Play will consist of new players learning the basics of hockey in a fun way that will build a love of the game.  In-house games will be played weekly, so players can put their skills to the test and coaches can be involved to teach the players while they are on the ice.  Level 2 of Learn-to-Play is designed for players who are ready for a higher level of hockey, but aren’t yet ready for the Mite level. These players will have the opportunity to play in a league against other town teams at the same level. Both levels will allow young hockey players to develop their game play and have fun.

Both levels of Learn-to-Play are designed for children who have grasped the basics of skating and wish to develop hockey skills. Players will attend two 50-minute, on-ice sessions per week (one practice and one game). Practices will focus on drills and techniques to improve skating and hockey skills.

The season will start in September and run through mid-March.

Level 1 In-house games will start at the end of December.  Games will be cross-ice, two-minute buzzer hockey, and consist of 4 players vs. 4 players. Goalies will not be used.  Games will be played with the intention of not keeping score, to allow players to develop skills and not focus on winning or losing.

Level 2 games will begin in September and will be played at The Bog against teams from other towns using a 4 on 4 format and goalies.

Coaches will determine which level each player will be placed on when teams are determined.
